Characters currently in-game: None
Triggers/Fears/Squicks: Slightly squicked by like… cutting off body parts sort of thing, but I don’t think it’ll be a problem with warnings
Character Motivation: I mean... he’s probably going to say ‘to have lots of sex’ but it would really be more like ‘because I care about a few people so to save them.’
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
Name: Eames
Age: Headcanoned 31
Physical Appearance: link
Point in Timeline: The end of Inception
World Description: Basically, it’s Earth with dream share technology (see Dream share, Dreams, PASIV, and Somnacin for more information, but basically you use the Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous Device and the drug Somnacin to enter other people’s dreams. Criminals use these to steal information, or plant information in the case of the movie.)
History/Background: wiki
Noteworthy Positive Characteristics:
- charming & humorous: Eames is quite the teasing charmer, teasing multiple members of the inception team throughout the movie. In his female forge, he walks in the elevator with Saito, asking for a moment and startling him before showing himself in the mirror. At one point in the movie, Arthur’s tipping his chair back. Ariadne wants to know what a kick is, so Eames shows her by kicking Arthur’s chair and startling him, answering his frown with a smirk. He’s charming in his humor with such lines like –
Cobb: That price that was on my head, was that dead or alive?
Eames: Don’t know. Let’s see if he starts shooting.
– in his very lame attempt at trying to distract a guy while Cobb runs away. He’s also teasing Arthur when Arthur’s trying to shoot some projections after them. Eames then walks up, takes out a grenade launcher, and says ‘You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.’, blowing them up.
- intelligent: He's also a pretty smart guy, if you pay attention. In regard to Saito wanting Robert to dissolve his father’s empire, Eames says 'Well, you see right there you have various political motivations and anti-monopolistic sentiments and so forth, but all of that stuff, it’s really at the mercy of your subject's prejudice.', which I mean, that’s some intelligent thinking. He also hits it on the head that they need to target the father/son relationship right away when he’s talking to Cobb in their first meeting. He comes up with a good deal of their plan. In fact, toward the beginning of the planning phase, he comes up with the idea to have Robert give himself the idea by suggesting it to him as a forge of his godfather. It’s the ‘only way it will stick. It has to seem self-generated,’ which impresses Arthur. He also had the forethought to put a shortcut in their maze, which comes in handy when they’re running out of time.
- kind: He is also (though he doesn’t show it as often as he should) a pretty kind man. Despite obviously disliking Cobb, when they think they’ve failed inception, he says 'It isn't me who doesn't get to see their family, is it?'. Despite all the crap Cobb put him through, he feels bad that Cobb doesn’t get to see his kids. At one point, Saito gets shot, and Eames knows he will eventually die within the dream and maybe will drop into Limbo and be trapped until he goes crazy. He seems concerned about him when he first enters the hospital, and he stops to tell him to hold off the projections while he sets the charges. Earlier, Eames told him there was no room for tourists on this job, and Saito repeats that line now. Eames smiles and says ‘don’t be silly.’ He’s actually got some heart in him, and does attach to people.
Noteworthy Negative Characteristics:
- shaky morals: Eames has some shaky morals, though. He is, after all, a thief. A dream thief, too. He frequently steals from people, and is shown to steal wallets, forge poker chips, etc. He enters people’s minds and messes around in there without their permission, which is a kind of invasive and can ruin people’s businesses, if they steal information or plant it. He also pretends to be people via forging to manipulate the dreamer, which is not very nice. I tend to lean on the side of that he finds this work interesting, and he seems his victims as big yuckity-yucks. ‘They deserve it’, ‘they’re all corrupt anyway’ are things he might think, and also he doesn’t see the aftermath very often, so he’s a little out of touch how much thievery can hurt a person.
- bit of a temper: He’s annoyed and angry when Cobb reveals that they're stuck in Robert’s mind, 'battling his own private army, and if [they] get killed, they’ll be in limbo,' the place deep in one's subconscious where one ends up if they go too far layer-wise or are killed while sedated in a dream, 'till [their] brains turn to scrambled egg' (as Eames so eloquently puts it.). He even decides to quit working at one point, but Cobb guarantees they'll be killed no matter what if they quit. He seems upset that there’s no other way out, and fumes for a few moments before moving on. He doesn’t get violent, but vicious with his words when he’s angry.
- jerk: He can definitely be a jerk in some of the things he does and says. Cobb asks him to distract a guy while he runs, and Eames barely even tries. It hardly distracted the guy, but it counts, right? He also tips Arthur's chair to demonstrate what a kick is and to bother Arthur because he thinks it's funny, which makes Arthur frown. He also finds humor in Yusuf testing his compound on Arthur and pushing him out of the chair to prove that the inner ear function remained untampered with. He’s shown smirking as Yusuf giggles in the background. It is also pretty jerk-ish of him to say he’s quitting in the middle of a job, even if he didn’t go through with it. He’s combative with Arthur a lot, like tipping his chair, thanking him for his condescension, and while it’s all done with teasing humor, it is a little mean of him.
Powers/Abilities:
- hand-to-hand combat
- marksmanship with small handguns and ability to use grenade launchers as well as explosives, at the very least
- pickpocketing
- forging of documents
- dream sharing: Eames uses a PASIV to enter people's dreams and manipulate them, as well as steal information or plant ideas. Eames requires the PASIV machine to dream share.
- forging: While he's in a dream, Eames is able to forge or shapeshift into different people. He's forged into different ages and genders.
Character Fears: Losing himself, people leaving him
Personal Item: His totem (a poker chip) in his pocket, and his Heckler & Koch P2000.
